WIDA English Language Proficiency (Development) Standards
Virginia joined the WIDA Consortium in 2007 to better meet the instructional needs of our English Learners, or ELs. WIDA provides a framework for the design and implementation of the standards.

There are 5 broad standards that reflect the social and academic expectations of ELLs. Model Performance Indicators (MPIs) are the most specific representation of the standards WIDA offers. There are MPIs provided for each standard in each grade level cluster.
